Where'd everybody go?....

Yep, it's that time of year again. That time when school starts again, homework begins to take over your life & this blog goes 'kaputz'. Well, not this year!

I've decided until everyone is free from their heavy workload woes, topic deadlines shall be extended to compensate, giving each of you more time to work on & submit your artwork. Until further notice, each topic shall last a month! That's right... 30 days(-ish).

& since Halloween's right around the corner, why not use that as an excuse to test this plan out, shall we? The topic is to draw ANYTHING that fit's the Halloween spirit. Make it scary, make it creepy, make it jaw-droppingly horrific.... or whatever you feel's right.

You have until Halloween Night (October 31st) to send your work in! So get crackin', soldiers!

Better Late Than Never....

Sorry for being late, I couldn't get in contact with ~Em these last few days to ask what her what the new topic outta be. & she decided that the new topic shall be all about SKELETONS! If you want, you can draw parts of a skeleton & it doesn't have to be limited to ones of the human persuasion. Animals are OK in my book.

For being so late, I'm gonna let this topic go 'til Sunday Night at 8 PM.

Next up?... NEON!

Since Miss ~Em won last week, she gets to choose our next topic. For this week, the topic shall be NEON. What does that mean?... I don't quite know, but for this particular topic you're allowed to draw your idea of something neon. Clothing, signs, whatever.

Due date this week shall be Friday, September 5th @ Midnight!

Vote your Pants Off! (Not Literally, of course)

Another week down, another week comin' up. But before we continue we gotta vote first!

Will ~Em's tutu'ed two-stepper take 1st place?
or will Cheshire's Tangoing Twosome dance themselves into the lead?
or can my own white boy dance skillz help me reach the top?

Only one way to find out.... VOTE NOW!!!

The polls will close Wednesday Night @ Midnight!

"Dance to Funky Music, White Boy"

This category of dancing doesn't quite have that much of a defined style as ballet, swing or the tango, but it's probably the most recognized dance style in the States (if not the rest of the world):

No other person on this planet dances quite like the white guy. I know, 'cause I've been one all my life, & sadly I have danced at plenty of parties, so many people already are aware of my peculiar movements to music. I'll try to describe it to the best of my ability.

A white guy usually dances off-kilter &/or off-beat. While other people can keep rhythm, beat & time their movements right to the music, the unfortunate white guys dance as if they were either blind, deaf or dumb (the latter one in most cases). Their moves are usually a hodge-podge of out-of-date dances between the years 1954 to around 1987. The most common moves of a white guy are the "sideways peace sign across the eyes" gesture, the "lifting one foot & twisting on the other" shuffle & the most widely recognized gesture: "pointing your finger in the air a la John Travolta in 'Saturday Night Fever'"

Unlike dances of yesteryear, like the Charleston, the Twist & the Macarena, the dance of the white guy never seems to fade away. It's always has been there, & forever it shall remain.

*Since I just got back from a trip today, I roughed this out quickly on the plane ride home & inked it just now. I'll try to get my later entries out of the way before I go away myself. Cheers!

Ballerina

Hey
before i explain why i put up this picture, I want to explain that i just came back from vacation.. like.. now... and i just used a picture that I drew a long time ago I had no time to draw
I know its.. girly and ballet... i wanted to do like.. swing dancing or polka.. or somthing
but here is my toon platoon entry ....it is pen and water color.

Tango Lessons

The dance I chose to do was the Tango, it's one I've been wanting to learn how to do for years. The couple is two fictional characters from an RP. The guy (yes, a guy) on the left, is Prince Rougier. He's trying to teach his girlfriend, the assassin Asuka Haruko, how to dance the tango, but she's a little nervous and has two left feet about it.

New Topic: Dancing

OK, ~Em won this week's automotive art endeavour, so she decided that this week's topic shall be DANCING.

For this topic, the idea is to draw either one, two or more people dancing a certain way. There are hundreds of different dances from all over the world, from Belly Dancing to the Watusi (whatever that is). To help choose the right dance for you, here's a list of dances courtesy of Wikipedia: CLICK ME!. & remember to write the name of the dance as a caption underneath the dancer(s) in your drawing.

Since I will be away this weekend, the due date for this week's topic will be next Monday, August 25th @ 5 PM.

Sunday, August 17, 2008

Vote! Vote! VOTE!!!

Oops.... sorry I'm late everybody. Busy weekend. Long story. Won't go into it.

Ok it's time to vote on the winner:

Will it be my own Model T entry?
or ~Em's flame car decal entry?

The poll will close Monday Night @ Midnight! Vote quickly!!!

I hate cars

I hate cars... but I got this joke from "King of the Hill" haha Even though Hank ABSOLUTELY RUINS the whole show..... I still love it.
yes.. i know there is a lack of color.. background...and ........ accurate car parts.... but I did my best.

"Tin Lizzie"

More formally known as Ford's Model T, it was the world's first real popular car. Back in the day, the top speed of this revolutionary car was a speedy 45 mph, got about 15-20 miles per gallon & cost a whopping $850. Technology...
I've always liked old-fashioned cars. Their designs always caught my eye. Some cars like the new Mustangs & Mini Coopers look a bit reminiscent of the old classic cars, but a majority of cars today look exactly the same model after model, year after year. If only more modern cars looked like the Model T... sure they're unsafe as hell, but at least they look a lot nicer on the road than a Toyota Corolla. Man, I'd drive a Model T anyday.

Man, that was quick.... + NEW TOPIC

GuitarMonster answered the question correctly (& in record time too) so let's move on to a new topic!

For this week, the topic will focus on Cars. For this topic, you can draw your favorite real life car or design your own car. Trucks, sedans, vans, buses, go-karts, jeeps, dune buggies, whatever! & no, ATVs (quads), scooters & motorcycles don't count here.

Due date for this week will be Saturday Afternoon at 3PM.

Aw Crap... a Tie...

Well, we gotta solve it so we can move on. So let's do so....

This trivia question is for SirPsychoSexy & GuitarMonster only. Whoever answers this first in the comments section wins.

Pi (π) is equal to 3.14..., etc, etc, etc. List the first 13 numbers that come after 3.14

Time to Vote!

Wow, what a turnout! Almost every member submitted an entry this week. I guess it's a very popular topic for everyone?

We also have a new member in our ranks, SirPsychoSexy. Welcome to the platoon, soldier!

We'll it's time to vote this week, & I tell ya, it's gonna be a tough week with all the choices we have to choose from.

-Will it be my cartoony Joker?
-Or Cheshire's pair of Jokers (or should I say a Joker & one Harley?)
-How about ~Em's Joker "playing Norman Bates"? (Don't get the reference?.... well too bad!)
-Maybe SirPsychoSexy's first entry will take first place?
-Yet OmegeEye's hodgepodge Joker has a really good chance.
-& last, but not least... GuitarMonster's creepy "staring directly at me no matter where I stand" Joker?

The poll will close Monday at 5PM.

The JOKER

Here he is the one, the only, JOKER!!!!! Well i guess there is a lot more of him then any of us need. Because if I'm not mistaken, everyone drew him, so there is what? 6? Well any way, I tried to make him as creepy as possible. To me, he kind of looks half real and half cartoon. But what ever. I drew him holding an ace card in his hand with the Bat symbol on it cas i think there is a runing thing between him and batman where Joker calls batman ace. But I'm not sure. (Didn't watch to much B-man).

I Believe In The Joker

It's a combination of the new and old Joker and a couple of additions:
First, the right eye (from his point of view) is burnt
Second, that same eye has a vertical cut on it
Third, he doesn't have a long pointy nose
fourth, his chin isn't a big
and fifth he has a similar make up on as the Joker from the Dark Knight movie as well as his out fit
Well, that's it (I think)
Later

Jokah

Hey, guys. New guy here... don't have a lot to say except that me and Omega are related (brothers) and that I've been wanting to enter these competitions ever since he mentioned them to me. But me being lazy and all was never really arsed to do so.

So, why did I decide to partake in this one? Well, because the Joker is awesome. Simple as that. =p

Im in luuuuuv with the jokah

first off... I love you omega for shoosing this topic... and you Chesire for DRAWING HARLEY QUIN~~ OMG! I love harley quinn I was even going to draw harley quin and joker together but I wanted my picture to focus more on the topic...
BUT I HATE MIKE FOR NOT LIKING BATMAN..... (as you can tell.. I love batman)
But back to my drawing:
I did many drawings and none of them were good enough. I couldnt think of any poses out of my imagination that were.. creepy.

So one day.. I was drawing and my mom was standing right in front of me....
so I told her to make a creepy pose with a gun..
She took my brothers toy gun and posed for me...
I think she thought I was drawing her... because when I was done shes like.. "oooh! is that mama rambo?"
Im like.. no mom its the joker DUHH
Anywho.. This is Mom dressed up as the joker.
I watercolored it.. as always

A Pair of Jokers

It's been a while for me, but here's my entry for this week. Props to OmegaEye for the topic, he's officially even more-so the coolest person in my book. I took a play on Joker's entire symbol: the Calling Card. Guess which Joker I decided to use? And in honor of the leaked scene they deleted from the  script of The Dark Knight...he's accompanied by his "favorite" dame, Harley Quinn.

The Joker, My Way

I had a little time today away from my work to draw my entry for this week. Lucky you.

Although I've not really been a fan of Batman (or most comic books in general), I always admired the Joker from the animated show from the 90's, especially Mark Hamill's voice delivery for the character.

For reference, I watched an animated Joker clip from Youtube, but in the end he looks more like the Joker from the old 60's TV show than the animated one. Looking back, I wish I drew him in a more dynamic pose... he looks so stiff just standing there, like he's a cardboard standee. Oh well, I tried.

It's Joker Time!!!

To coincide with the hype for the new Bat-flick, The Dark Knight, OmegaEye decided that this week's topic will focus on one of Batman's most diabolical (yet most admirable & appealing) villains: the Joker!!!

You can draw him any way you wish... like the old TV show, like the animated show from the 90's, like the current Joker from Dark Knight or any way you think is acceptable.

The due date this week will be Saturday Night @ Midnight!

OmegaEye Wins!!!!

Well, the votes are in & OmegaEye cinched Elf Week! Congrats to both of you on your great entries this week.

OmegaEye, it's time for you to choose next week's topic! I'll be gone for most of the day tomorrow & I won't be back at my studio 'til tomorrow night, so
call or email me by tomorrow night to choose your topic.

Think wisely!

Elf Vote!

What a crazy week & a half. I leave for a few days leavin' this topic empty & I come back to find two great entries! Congrats, guys!

Now it's time to vote:

~Em's Cloaked Elf?
or OmegaEye's Bunny-Eared Elf?

The poll will close Monday, August 4th @ 5pm.

The Bunny Elf

Bunny Elf: "What are you looking at?"

Sorry, my scanner is giving me troubles so had to take a pic of it. Damn my scanner. Oh, well. It's inspired by Haruhi for those who know and if you don't then you can look it up on google. Later.

MAAHAHAHAHAHAH EVIL ELF

not all elves are cute and cuddly little creatures that want to give you candy and rainbows for life....
SO i drew this to be artitically surreal and outside the box =D
I think i drew the sleeves pretty good.. but it looks like yoda =\...

This is pen and watercolor

Tuesday, July 22, 2008

New Topic is a bit Elfish...

Since OmegaEye won the tie breaker, he decided that this week's topic will focus on ELVES.

There's all different kinds of elves: warriors, kings, regular folk, Santa's elves... whatever.

OmegaEye does specify that you can only draw original elves. Characters like Link or guys from Lord of the Rings do not count. You can use them as references, but you cannot draw them as your entry. Elves of your own design only!!! Also, do not draw gnomes, trolls, imps or leprechauns, they don't count as elves.

The due date for this topic will be Wednesday (July 30th) at Midnight!

Monday, July 21, 2008

Damn... Another Tie

Well, the votes are in & we're stuck in another tie (God, I hate it when this happens...). This time, it's between ~Em & OmegaEye. We gotta break this thing somehow, right? Right!

OK, I shall ask a trivia question & whoever answers it correctly first will choose the next topic. Remember this question is for ~Em & OmegaEye only!

*This'll be an "open-book" question: you are allowed to use the Internet to find the answers. I'm not a teacher, so I don't care where you get the answers from, as long as you answer them correctly. You've got one chance to answer, if you answer incorrectly you lose your turn & the other has their chance to answer.*

Here's the question:

List all 9 planets in our solar system from largest to smallest (Pluto included!)

You two have only 24 hours to answer the question. If neither of you answer correctly or answer at all, then the next topic shall be chosen randomly. & make sure to think of a good topic for next week when you answer so I don't have to wait for you guys to think of one afterwards. Good luck!

Time's Up, so let Nature take it's course...

Wow, what a turnout! Everybody & their mother submitted entries this week. & what great entries they are! The coolest thing is that we've got an equal balance of Mother Nature & Father Time to choose from!

So now comes the interactive part of the show, the big vote-off. Who will win this week?

My Carlin-esque Faddah Time?
Cheshire's ivy-covered Mother Nature?
~Em's watercolor Father, Mother & Son mash up?
GuitarMonster1994's Young Father Time?
or OmegaEye's Mother Nature playin' OmegaMan?

Voting shall conclude Monday Afternoon @ 4:30 PM!!!

Mother Nature Entity

I originally drew this on paper and scanned but as I started to clean it up, I decided to completely retrace it and redraw some parts (hands, eyes, nose, lips, hair). If I had drawn the Earth on top I don't think I would have finish it in time (just consider it an extra, and it's a cool pic of Earth too).
Oh, and she's laying down and holding the Earth up. I guess you can flip around as well.

The Young Father Time

This is my much much younger father time. I drew him young because I figured if he was the 'Master of Time' that he could control how he ages. I messed up coloring him with colored pencils so if u want to see him colored go to my blog. I think the link is on the right some where.

Mother Nature, Father Time and their baby

I only have 4 words to say to this.... SON OF A BITCH!
The color came out so wrong in the scanner... rrrrggggg what ever here is my entry...
It is Mother nature, Father time and their Baby boy.
As far As I read.. mother nature and father time are married.
So I think it made more than common sence to say that they have a baby together... because father time passes on his job to a baby boy on January 1st....
But he cant just asexually reproduce and make a boy... he must mate with his "wife". Thats how science works....
HERE'S A HAPPY FAMILY!
But not so happy since the color is off. X(

Mother Nature

My interpretation of what Mother Nature might be like...tried to make her blend as part of the willow tree. Everything was drawn out at work, each individual ivy leaf and all. I would have colored it in the blends that I had planned, but that would never have photographed well. lol

Wednesday, July 16, 2008

'Faddah' Time

Here's my interpretation of Father Time. Apparently, he's late for the early-bird dinner special at Howard Johnson's.

You know.... when you look at him closely, he looks kinda like a cross between Willie Nelson & George Carlin.

Monday, July 14, 2008

'Time' for our Next Topic!

The votes are in, & Cheshire wins this week! Congrats to her & ~Em for their great entries!

Cheshire's topic will be a fun one... for this week the topic is to draw your own interpretation of Mother Nature or Father Time. Adding a background is completely up to you, but I'd suggest you guys should just draw the character alone so all attention is drawn to him/her & not what's behind them.

Due date will be Saturday, July 19th @ Midnight.

Sunday, July 13, 2008

Cut!... Print!... Vote!

OK, three great entries this week! Although the topic details did come off as confusing to some, I hope we'll be able to come back & do a topic somewhat like this one in the future. But I digress, 'cause it's time to vote!:

Will it be ~Em's entry with Mickey Mouse?
How about my"'Night on Bald Mountain' from Fantasia" entry?
& last (but not least), Cheshire's Lord of the Rings comic entry?

The polls will be closed Monday afternoon @ 5 o'clock PM!

Lord of the Rings: What Really Happened

I'm fairly certain only fellow "Tolkein Nerds" would really get this one, but, I took the scene from Lord of the Rings: Return of the Kings, where Frodo is leaving the Shire with Gandolf and them so that he can travel with the Elves. Now, in the movie they were all there as a group as if planned like that. In the book....it happened very differently. Frodo was trying to sneak off like in the "Fellowship of the Ring" without the other three knowing. Instead of them Eavesdropping...this time Gandolf is the one to tip off the other hobbits of Frodo's departure so that they can say goodbye. Bringing back the classic stick-figure comics XD

"Night on Chicken Mountain"

Since Fantasia is my all-time favorite film, it was quite a treat to actually drawn upon it after such a long time.

At first I didn't know what scene to do.... the Chinese Mushroom dance from the Nutcracker Suite?.... Mickey conducting the stars in The Sorcerer's Apprentice?..... Ben Ali Gator swooning over Hyacinth Hippo from the Dance of the Hours?..... what could I possibly do?

I finally decided on the one sequence I've never considered drawing from before... probably one of (if not the) most frightening scenes in all Disney film history: the Night on Bald Mountain sequence! I substituted Chernabog with Cannibal Chicken & two spirits with Steve-O & Randy just to make things a bit less scary.

EM-innie and Mickey Mouse

I couldnt think of ANYTHING! AT ALL!
My favorite movie was Across the Universe... but I couldnt think of anything.
So .. my second favorite is ANY DISNEY MOVIE!
and who is Disney's icon? MICKEY MOUSE!
I know I am not wearing my glasses in this picture... but it still looks like me. And who wears their glasses on a date?? (except if you really really need them)
so I drew me as Minnie mouse and I am going on a date with Mickey mouse!
BE JEALOUS LADIES!!
also more of this stuff will be on my blog....

Monday, July 7, 2008

Guess what...

I win! Big whoop....

Anyway, it's time to choose the next topic.... uhhhh.....lemme see.....uuuuuuuuhhhhhhhh-OH!.... how 'bout Cereal Mascots!, we haven't done that one ye-... oh wait, we did do that already, didn't we?...... damn it......

OOH! I GOT IT! (This'll be a goodie!) For this week's topic, the assignment is to draw a screengrab from a scene from your favorite (or one of your favorite) movies. For this, you should try to draw it as close to the original image as you can, but don't completely copy the image as if you were tracing it! Add your own style or flair to it, make it as if it were your own! If you have any of your own characters, substitute them with the actual actors if you wish! It's all up to you, as long as you have fun with it!

Due date for this week is Saturday Night @ 12 Midnight!

Sunday, July 6, 2008

Sold Out! Time to Vote!

I hope you all had a great Fourth of July! Although it's been a pretty slow week because of the holiday, it's still has been a decent turnout. Now who do you think should win this week's Toon Platoon?

1) Dumbo + Rambo I = ''Dumbo: First Blood'' (Michael J. Ruocco)
or
2) Saving Private Ryan + Romeo & Juliet = ''Saving Private Romeo & Juliet'' (~Em)

Polls shall be closed Monday @ 4PM

Saturday, July 5, 2008

Saving Private Romeo and Juliet

This is the tragic tale of 2 lovers only wanting to be with each other.
Tom Hanks as Romeo gets called to war which will seperate them even more than being either a Capulet or Montegue.
Will Juliet kill herself when not with her fair Romeo? Will Romeo die in war? I SURE HOPE SO!
Call me crazy but this sounds like it could be a real movie LOL.

"When I See an Elephant Kill"

What do you get when you cross a baby elephant with big ears with guerrilla warfare in Vietnam?

Yes, I'm sick that way...

Tuesday, July 1, 2008

Glad THAT'S over with....

...now back to our regularly scheduled programming...

The idea for out next topic came to be during a conversation I had with Cheshire & GuitarMonster a few weeks ago. I thought "What would happen if you combined two totally different movies into one, for example: if you combined A with B, what would you end up with?...". Well, we ran with the idea for a good 10-15 minutes & decided that it would make a great topic someday. Well, today's the day!

So this week, you have to create a movie poster/screenshot based on a combination of 2 totally different movies of your choice.

Due date is Saturday, July 5th @ Midnight!

No..... NO!....... IT CANNOT BE!!!....

Sadly, it is...... we've got a THREE WAY TIE this week! & you know what that means..... TIME TO BREAK IT!

Although it is a three way tie, ~Em is a away on a brief vacation & won't be availiable to participate. So technically, the tie is only against GuitarMonster1994 & myself. Here's what we're gonna do:

Another member shall ask a random trivia question & whomever answers it correctly first wins!Since Cheshire isn't in the tie, I think it would be appropriate that she asks the big question! Cheshire, you may post your question in the comments of this post & we'll answer it there.

*This'll be an "open-book" question: you are allowed to use the internet to find the answers. I'm not a teacher, so I don't care where you get the answers from, as long as you answer them correctly. You've got one chance to answer, if you answer incorrectly you lose your turn & the other has their chance to answer.*

THE BEER-BOT!

Just so you know... this one was slightly inspired by that Futurama episode where Bender is pregnant with like... beer? I dont know.. somthing Fry but in his stomach... or what ever robots have. (sorry if I got names wrong.. I dont wantch that show a lot.)

so to explain...
This robot obviously only makes beer in his little "compartment" which is probably a robots "stomach". So you see... it comes with this little romote you can press (you only click it when you want some beer)! Thats what the attena is for. It only takes about 30 seconds to make a new glass of beer. Then, once hes ready to serve, he uses his roller blades (as you can see have ROCKETS on them to get to you quicker) to serve you your beverage.
But since taking out of his compartment is sooo cliche.... the beer travels up to his arm.. then flows all the way to the beer bottle. After that.. you hold out your cup.... and he pours the beer right into your cup! He even has cool light up eyes... AND TEETH!! And he always has a thumbs up hand to keep you in a good mood (because I know a lot of people drink when they are depressed)
Once again.. sorry about the date... I swear not being in school totally throws me off the calendar.

Spybot: Carmen G8

A Gynoid (female android) robotics program developed by the ACME division of the United States CIA. Built to be the perfect spy, Carmen was created with the intention of infultrating and bringing down foreign criminal units connected with Organized Crime in the US and Europe. Her other, and most important function, is as a world-class thief. Stealing important items from one place, framing various Ex-agents, Criminals, and political factions for the actions.

Looks like I am the winner for this week. Great work, everybody! Nice stuff!

Since Wall-E is coming out this Friday, I thought it would be a great opportunity draw upon it. For this week, the topic shall be to design your own robot & describe (visually or verbally) what it's main function(s) is. Don't forget to give it a catchy name!

Due date this week is Saturday Night @ Midnight!

The Gaseous-Nauseous-Vaporus Hudfish

Over many years of radiation & contamination in the Hudson River, many species of sea life have evolved to adapt to the ever-changing surroundings. One of these specimens is the Carpus Vaporus, more popularly known as the Hudfish. Some have negatively called them "Fart Factory Fish", for it's smokestack-like emission tubes on it's back & for it's horrid stench, which has been compared to a mixture of motor oil, rotten eggs & week old Chinese Food. Due to it's high levels of radioactivity, they're extremely harmful to humans & other living organisms, so stay clear of 'em!

Beware.... this creature makes Chernobyl look like Disneyland!

The Hudson River Dragon

I guess one would say, or at least I would, that this Dragon mutated from some sort of fish (carp?) that had come into contact with some sort of virus that lives in the Hudson river but has mutated into some sort of super virus (sort of like resident evil 4) and this transformed the fish into the Dragon. Now, this beast doesn't eat with it's mouth, it's just used to filter water kind of like a whale (I forgot the name of the whale, but whatever). Instead, it uses a mouth filled with razor sharp teeth that is located on the palm of the Dragon's hand. This is beneficial to the Dragon, since it can grab and eat it's prey, all in one movement. Well, that's it. Comments, etc., etc..............................................................

heeyyy y'aalll! LoL ... sorry. But here is my entry. Ems Entry. As you can see, the only way the fish would be able to survive is if it blue its own bubble and then somehow go in it. Yeah, ... i one again used watercolring. uhh thats all i have to say. Commentarios por favor!

Whaddaya know.... another Defaulter!!!

Well, here we go again....

Since I was the only guy who posted, I win this week & get to choose the next topic. Whoop-de-doo... Ok, for this week, we'll do somethin' a bit different from the last few weeks:

Back at SVA, when Patrick McDonnel (creator of the comic-strip Mutts) spoke at the school, he told us that he had to take an "art exam" to get into the college. Unlike a written exam or essay, he had to draw all of his answers. One of the assignments on the test was to design a fish that could survive in the Hudson River. For those of you who don't know, the Hudson River was (& still is) highly contaminated with sewage & harmful chemicals from the G.E. Corporation.

He then drew his answer, which looked somethin' like this:

This answer got him into the school.

So, this week, I'd like to see how imaginative & original you guys really are. So this week's topic is the same as the one given to Patrick McDonnel: DESIGN A FISH THAT COULD SURVIVE IN THE HUDSON RIVER. Be very creative with your answers!

The due date will be Saturday, June 14th @ Midnight.

*By the way, the drawing I did above does not count as my entry, so this drawing does not count in the final vote.*

"Em & Em"

No, she ain't a candy, but just as sweet...

Well, maybe just a bit more sour.... (Just kidding, ~Em old girl)

I would have done it up nice in color with crayons or colored pencils or somethin', but I was afraid I'd ruin it if I did. My color sense is completely off-kilter. Besides, I think it looks fine just the way it is.

Damn! I should've drawn a Dick Dastardly mustache, just to get back at ~Em for drawin' me up like I was a Disney Princess. Oh well, maybe next time!

It's a Defaulter!!!

Since ~Em had the only entry this week, she's the winner by default (Dames gets all da breaks!) Congrats!

For this week, the topic shall be to do a caricature of ~Em, just like what you guys did for me a few weeks back! But since some of you don't know ~Em personally or even what she looks like, here's a picture for reference:

It's small, but it'll do.

Due date is next Saturday, June 7th.

Hey, I won this week!

Unless you're too out of it to read the post title, I won this week's contest. I have ended ~Em's winning streak! Bwaaahahahahaaaaa! (cough)...

After some thought, I decided to pick a topic other than something mocking myself or a fellow member. I think it's time for another holiday-related topic, & this time we're celebrating MEMORIAL DAY! Let's pay tribute to all those who lost their lives fighting for our freedom.

This week'll be a bit shorter than the last few. The due date for this week will be Saturday, May 31st!

Have a wonderful Memorial Day weekend everyone!

Enough MJR Bashin'! Time to Vote!

Vote your freakin' heart out!

Mike and All HIs Adorableness

This is my entry for this week, a week of two firsts. First time doing a rendering of a friend, AND trying to make a chibi. But Em was right about Mike's looks and I just had to do one of that adorable side that he tries to deny. The duck on the sketchbook was his idea to add, like a little 5yr old's rendering of his own character.

Mug o' Moi

Here's a quick doodle of yours truly surrounded by my little creations: Steve-O, Randy & Cannibal Chicken. No tiaras. No dresses. No webbed-toes or hairy backs. Just plain ol' me.

I ain't offended by the other member's interpretations of me. I think they're swell. In fact, I look better in those illustrations than I do in real life. Children cower & run away in fear at the sight of me. Mirrors break, dogs bark & old people go into cardiac arrest just by taking a quick glance. On several occasions, some poor saps have turned into stone. Still, I'm glad my face is funny enough to be caricatured like this.

By the way, women love a self-deprecator...

The Ruocco Beast

This is the only know drawing of this beast, no photographs as they hadn't been invented. It is told that the Mayans created this beast by combining a poor kid with a bear, a duck, a frog, and a bat (these creatures, not the kid, were thought to be the evilest creatures know to man kind, why? I don't know, they just were). The poor kid only was described as "Ruocco" or "MJR" and the rest is history. The conquistadors were the only witnesses of these damned beast and only a few of them survived to tell the story. Whether it's still alive today is unknown but many believe that it's capable of change it's body shape to escape recognition and capture. The other believed body shapes are those of the lochness monster, big foot, godzilla, and now it's believed that it has taken the shape of the boy once more in order to fit in better with it's surroundings and to make it's self completely undetectable. Remains of other similar species were found which were depicted in the Seaman game for the Dreamcast game system but that's for another time. Comments are always welcomed. Peace.

Ems Entry

Hey! Its em..duh. I made this caricature of mike of his disgruntled face... and his princess outfit =D.
Uhm... this was kind of hard, because my caricatures always have the head look realistic. And I could only find a couple pictures of his head on his blog.. and one picture I have on my own..... but i couldnt find any with his face facing totaly towards the camera... so I just mostly drew it from memory... Im not even sure if he has that much facial hair anymore.. but whatever I think it looks like him....

Can you guess whos saying "night night princess" at the corner?

Week 11: MJR Caricature

Since ~Em won the tie-breaker, she got to choose the next topic. Her new topic is a little unorthodox, but still very original. This week, you have to draw a caricature, but not of just anyone, it has to be a caricature of ME, Michael J. Ruocco! Since all the members on this site know me personally, it shouldn't be too hard to draw me. I'm cartoony enough already!

As for HOW caricatured you wish to make me, just go crazy! Wanna draw me as realistically as possible... than do it. If you want to draw me simple and flat... go for it! Anime, anthropomorphic, stylized, abstract, exaggerated... whatever you want!

The due date is Wednesday, May 21st!
"Be afraid, be very afraid"

What's This?... A TIE VOTE?!

Wow, this is a first. There appears to be a tie between ~Em & Cheshire's entries this week! Now how are we gonna solve this conundrum?...

I got it! A trivia question! That should work! Shouldn't it?

Ok, I shall ask a trivia question & whoever answers it correctly first will choose the next topic. Remember this question is for ~Em & Cheshire only!

*This'll be an "open-book" question: you are allowed to use the internet to find the answers. I'm not a teacher, so I don't care where you get the answers from, as long as you answer them correctly. You've got one chance to answer, if you answer incorrectly you lose your turn & the other has their chance to answer.*

List these six movies in chronologial order (earliest to latest).
a) Forrest Gump
b) Citizen Kane
c) Yellow Submarine
d) Rambo
e) Breakfast at Tiffany's
f) It's a Wonderful Life

Good luck to you both!
*UPDATE 5/12/08 11:00AM*
~Em won the tie-breaker. She get's to choose the next topic. ~Em, you have exactly 24 hours to get back to me (via email) with your topic.

Bye-Bye Lucy! Time to Vote!

Great submissions by ~Em & Cheshire this week! It's a real shame I couldn't post this week (damn you college dorm move-out!).

Anyway, the voting poll will be up until Saturday Night. So vote away!

Lucy in the Sky...with Kaleidoscope eyes

This is my entry for this week, yes I've been gone a while due to school. Anyway, it's glittered, so, hence the glitter-glare of the upload. I decided to capture the entire song by a kaleidoscope eye...with the scenes from the verses inside it. Top is the rocking horse by the fountain and bridge, left is the taxi sailing by green and yellow flowers, bottom is the rain at the station, and right is the river with tangerine trees. When I colored it, the Kaleidoscope part was done with glitterglue, and the actual scenes in colored pencil. This way, I could glitter over parts of the scenes to make it look like they were faded into the eye as reflections. Unfortunately...it's seen better in real life than the web thanks to my Photobooth.

Ems Entry

Well, scanner=not exactly like actual drawing... if only i could show you the real one.. it was so much more colorful! But oh well
i did the lyrics:
Follow her down to a bridge by a fountain, where rocking horse people eat marshmallow pies.

And yeah.. the clouds are inspired by the movie and so is her dress. But everything else is all me=). uhmm As you can tell the dress has a different texture. You know what I used? SALT! THATS RIGHT PEOPLE I USE FOOD IN MY DRAWINGS. but it all works out.

Uhm.. thats all i can say about this.
I DONT CARE IF YOU ARENT ON TOON PLATOON. i NEEDD SOME CRITISISM. This drawing will also be on MY blog.

Winner + New Topic!!!

Well, the polls are over, & we have a winner! The winner this week is... EM! Congrats!

As for the new topic, Em already had a topic in mind, which I think is really awesome. This week's topic will be based on the popular Beatles song "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds"!Here's the rules for this particular topic: you have to draw your own interpretation of a portion of the song. Just listen to the song/read the lyrics & draw what comes to your mind.

The due date for this topic is Wednesday, May 7th @ Midnight!

To help you guys out, I've included a video from Youtube as well as the lyrics below to help those who aren't familiar with the awesomeness of this song!

{VERSE 1}
Picture yourself in a boat on a river,
With tangerine trees and marmalade skies
Somebody calls you, you answer quite slowly,
A girl with kaleidoscope eyes.

Cellophane flowers of yellow and green,
Towering over your head.
Look for the girl with the sun in her eyes,
And she's gone.

{REFRAIN}
Lucy in the sky with diamonds
Lucy in the sky with diamonds
Lucy in the sky with diamonds
Ah... Ah...

{VERSE 2}
Follow her down to a bridge by a fountain
Where rocking horse people eat marshmallow pies,
Everyone smiles as you drift past the flowers,
That grow so incredibly high.

Newspaper taxis appear on the shore,
Waiting to take you away.
Climb in the back with your head in the clouds,
And you're gone.

{REFRAIN}

{VERSE 3}
Picture yourself on a train in a station,
With plasticine porters with looking glass ties,
Suddenly someone is there at the turnstile,
The girl with kaleidoscope eyes.

{REFRAIN REPEATED AND FADED}

Disney Pop-Up Toy

As a baby this was my favorite toy: a Disney Pop-Up Button Toy Thingy! Screw your Tickle-Me Elmos & your battery powered baby cars... back in my day, THIS was technologically advanced (actually, Teddy Ruxpin was probably much more technologicallly-advanced, what with the "state-of-the-art" cassette player in his back & all, but that bear gave me the $&%#@! creeps!)

It always kinda bothered me that Dumbo of all characters would be in it. I mean seriously, Mickey, Donald, Goofy, Pluto & Dumbo? How does he fit in? & for some reason, the thing that activates the Pluto pop-up is broken, so I don't remember what the mechanism was to make him appear. I'm surprised I didn't snap off Pluto entirely, with me trying to pry him open for the past 18 years.

I still have this toy in my attic somewhere. If I find it, I'll be playing with it all weekend, or at least until I find something even MORE exciting that that. Now if I only knew where my Sit & Spin was...

~Ems Entry

Hi, its em.. I made a girl having a tea party with her teddy bear. That used to be my favorite game... my mom never had any make up for me to try on like normal little girls would do, she wouldn't wear makeup herself... but having tea with my stuff toys were always fun by itself. I dont think I've even put tea in it either, it was "imaginary" LoL. Please give me some critisism toooo.

We're Finally Back with a New Topic!

Hey guys, it's been a while, so lets get things back up & running here!

The next topic shall be Your Favorite Childhood Toy/Game! Whether it's a teddy bear, a board game or one of those stackable, multicolored, donut-shaped, plastic things you had when you were a baby, who cares!

Since this is pretty short notice, the due date will be two weeks from now (April 23rd) at midnight.

Ready... Set... DRAW!!!!

Happy New Year!

Hey everybody! I hope you all had a nice holiday!

To start off the new year here at Toon Platoon, it's about time to start a new topic. Since my 12 Days of Christmas post didn't take off, I'll put up another topic.

For our first topic of 2008, I'll put up a much broader subject to tackle. This topic will be about 2007! For this, you can post whatever you want about the past year. It could be your most memorable moment (or your least), important events that took place in the world (news, entertainment, etc.) or personally, or ANYTHING that YOU think was significant in 2007. You also must put your explanation of what your submission is about & why you think it's so memorable.

The due date for this topic will be Saturday night @ Midnight (1/19/07)!

By the way, I'll also try to bring in some new recruits. Our army must grow!
