Well, THAT was a bust...

Wow, no contributions at all for this topic, & we had two weeks to do it too! I don't blame anybody for not posting anything, it's been a real hectic season this year, with college & shopping & a whole bunch of other stuff going on at once, who had the time?

For now, we'll leave this blog be for the rest of the holiday season, by then we'll be back on our feet. 'Til then, enjoy the rest of the holiday!

Week #8 - The 12 Days of Christmas

OK, I finally decided what this week's topic is!

Since Christmas is right around the corner, I thought it would be suitable to do something Christmas-y for a change. So this week's topic shall be The 12 Days of Christmas.

It can be the whole thing, or just a snippet of it here or there. In other words, for this week only you can submit multiple submissions, but they all have to be in the same post!

You got 12 days to choose from, so choose away! Deadline is Saturday @ Midnight!

*UPDATE* - Since everybody has a lot going on this week, I'm pushing the deadline another week 'til next Saturday (12/22), unless anybody here doesn't want to.

Saturday, December 8, 2007

Wow... that went quick, didn't it?

I seem to be the only submitter this week. It's a shame, I was looking forward to seeing the other member's takes on this topic. I guess it's because of the late start this week? Oh well. Maybe next time.

So... since it seems that I have ran unopposed this week, I guess that means I win? OK... that settles that.

As of right now, I cannot think of a new topic. I'll come back to this issue tomorrow & tell you guys what the next topic is then, alright? Alright!

"Gobbled Up by the Clause"

Wow, two birds with one stone with this post!

Ol' Tom Turkey finally gives in to Christmas' takeover of the Thanksgiving holiday. The Christmas season seems to come sooner & sooner each year, doesn't it?

Week #7 - Political Cartoons

Sorry for being tardy, folks!

David's choice for this week's topic is POLITICAL CARTOONS! Finally, something that gives you an excuse to read/watch the news!

This week is over same time each week (Saturday night @ Midnight).

Game Over! Vote Time!

We're out of quarters, folks! Now it's time to pick your choice!

Since I forgot to put this post up exactly at midnight due to my sleepy somberness, the voting shall end at 8 o'clock Monday night.

Whoever wins this week should email me ASAP so they can tell me what the new topic is. The sooner I get the topic, the sooner I can post it & we can start!

Happy Voting!

Love at First Explosion

As you can see I toke two bomb-ombs and mad them fall in love. The pinkish one is of course the girl. I didn't put fuses on them because it didn't look right. I just hope you guys like it. And P.S. If I win this weeks contest, the next topic will be very interesting.

David Spector's Submission

Since poor Dave's computer is acting wonky, he asked me put his entry up for him. Remember to read from left to right (I'm looking at you manga readers out there!). Enjoy!

Gargantan Goomba

I had a huge plan for this week... I wanted to submit an entry of epic proportions, with a multitude of enemies all around. But time sure flew this week, so you'll have to settle with this.

I never quite knew what the Goombas were exactly. Are they little walking cupcakes? Mushrooms? Cow pies? What the heck are they!?

My roommate Chris told me that they're supposed to be chestnuts. Ok...chestnuts? Those are the ugliest chestnuts I've ever seen. I wouldn't want to see them roasting on an open fire.

I was never a big fan of the Goomba's. I was more of a Koopa Troopa kind of guy, anyway (Koopa Troopa was once a nickname of mine).

Week #6 - Super Mario Bad Guys

YES! This week's topic is MIIIIINNNNNEEEEE! Mwaaaaahahahahahaaaaaaa! (cough) Ahem, sorry.

I decided this week should be a blast from our past. This week's topic will be Enemies from the Super Mario Games! It could range from the most minuscule of baddies (Goombas, Koopas, etc.) to big bad bosses (Bowser, Wart, etc.).

Due date is (as usual) this Saturday night at Midnight.

Times Up! Time to Decide!

Alright people, this week's over. Now for the fun part!

Voting deadline is Monday @ 4pm! Vote!

Sunrise from Space

This was a last minute job. Oh well, at least I did it.

Wouldn't this be a great view outside your bedroom window every morning? But after a while you'd get bored with it & put up some of those crappy plastic window decals of butterflies & flowers to go with those glow-in-the-dark stars up on the ceiling. After all, were only human.

meteorite

I drew this meteorite because I thought that everyone would do the sun or a planet, so I thought to change it up a bit.

Week #5 - Celestial Bodies

It's unanimous! Cheshire wins "Undersea Creatures Week"! Well deserved! Congratulations!

After much deduction & thought, Cheshire decided that this week's topic shall be "CELESTIAL BODIES". You know... planets, moons, comets, galaxies, suns, etc. NO ALIENS, SPACE SHIPS OR UFOs!

Due date is Saturday @ midnight. It's gonna be inter-stellar this week, baby!

VOTING TIME! (11/18/07)

Good week, folks! Good week! Now it's time to choose this week's Undersea King/Queen so we can move on to next week's topic!

Octopus VS. Shark

There's been a rut of shark-related hype everywhere these days (including here), so here's mud in your eye you shark fans!

I think the octopus is one of the coolest creatures on earth. What other animal has not only great intelligence, but can also change colors, expel ink, detach it's own limbs, mimic other animals & fit into spaces many times smaller than it's own? They're like James Bond, only with the gadgets already built in.

The strange thing is... why aren't there any movies about octopuses? There's millions on sharks (Jaws, Deep Blue Sea, Open Water, Shark Tale), but not one with an octopus as the main baddie! I think there could be a lot of potential in an octopus film, & think of the cool names that can come out of it: Tentacles, Mad Mollusk, Octopus Rex... THINK ABOUT IT, PEOPLE! I'd rather see a movie about killer octopuses than a bunch of remakes, rehashes, sequels & films based off TV shows & video games.
But I have to admit, the shark-hype doesn't annoy me as much as the penguin-hype does!
"GO, OCTOPUSES, GO!"

Great White Shark

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Great White Shark-This is the biggest and most dangerous of all sharks. It hunts large prey like seals and dolpins-and sometimes attack humans. Most people know this shark best as the giant man-eating in the film "Jaws."

Deep Blue Sea

Colors rock. ^^ I drew this while I watching Deep Blue Sea, it's my personal artistic take on the demonic killer genetically altered sharks that had their brains messed with in order to cure Alzheimer's disease. Yay for evil intelligant sharks!! Oh, it's been colored with a mix of colored pencils and marker. Yay for Crayola!!

Week #4 - Undersea Creatures

Since GuitarMonster & myself tied this week, we decided to have an outside source choose the next topic. My roommate here at SVA said Undersea Creatures, so that's that!

Deadline is a little shorter this week. This week will end Saturday Night @ Midnight.

GLUB! GLUB!

Prehistory Week Over! Vote Time!

OK, folks. This week is done. Now it's time for the political part of the week.

I'm gonna try something a little different this week. Instead of stating your votes in the comments section, you will now vote via poll! I've added a poll to the blog, so now all your votes will be tallied officially. It's as easy as clicking two buttons!

Votes on the comments sections will no longer be official votes, since we don't want people to vote twice. You can still comment on why you like the week's submissions, but other than that it's basically a "chatter box".

Since this whole poll thing is new, I'm making the deadline Monday at 12 noon to give you newbies more time.

Cornered!

I couldn't decide which prehistoric creature to use this week, so I decides to use a few faves: the wooly mammoth, the saber-toothed tiger & the moa.

Once again, we're the culprits here. Sure, maybe it's a little extreme to think of us as the sole reason why these animals are no longer walking the earth, but we had a part in it somewhere. We're like a cat who knocks over & breaks something: you know it did it, it knows it did it, but it still doesn't show guilt or take responsibility for it's actions. "Who me?... I don't think so. Ask somebody else. Maybe THEY did it."

We're not only bad people, but we're also bad liars.

Tylosaurus

Tylosaurus -(NOT AN ACTUAL DINOSAUR)-Was one of the largest known seagoing lizards. Close in appearance to a modern crocodile, it was a hunter of fish and shellfish. It lived in the time of the Dinosaurs.

Week #3: Prehistoric Creatures

Alright folks, since GuitarMonster won last week, he got to choose what this week's topic was. & if you couldn't tell by the title, this week's topic is PREHISTORIC CREATURES! ROOOAAARR! (cough)

Due date is next Saturday night! Enjoy!

Trick or Treat

Didn't have enough time to think of a better concept than this... or to clean up the lines... or to color it... or to make even remotely presentable, but here it is anyway!

If kids are not dressed as Jack Sparrow or Spiderman this year, then chances are they probably couldn't fit into their costumes. Happy Halloween, chubbies!

Week 2 - Polls Closed!

Alright, folks! The polls are officially closed. The winner of this week is... oh boy... it's a TWO-WAY TIE!!!!! GuitarMonster & myself are the tied winners, & since I picked last week's topic, I'm gonna let GuitarMonster choose the next one. Congrats, G.M.! (& kudos to the other submissions, too!)

But, there's a catch... GuitarMonster's topic won't come until NEXT week. Since Halloween is right around the corner, this week's topic is, you guessed it, HALLOWEEN! It can be anything: Frankenstein, vampires, trick-or-treating, pumpkins, witches... whatever! As long as it has to do with Halloween, it's A-OK in my book! Happy haunting!

Week 2 Over; Voting Begins!

Wow, a lot of submissions this week! This is probably our biggest turnout to date!... Wait, what am I talking about?! It's only our second week!

Anyway, Since this week's deadline is due, it's time to vote on who gets to choose the next topic. So many choices... it's gonna be a tough job deciding who gets it THIS week!

Remember to post your vote in the comments section of this post or it won't be counted! The deadline is tomorrow night at midnight (as is everything else)! Vote away!

The ClearAcidDragon & OmegaEye

This a logo that I made up for the forum names that I have used in the past, ClearAcidDragon and OmegaEye. I couldn't come up with anything else. Enjoy my friends.

Cupcake Assassinations

The Hostess Cupcakes guy is trying to assasinate the Drake's duck with a spatula. I 'scanned' this with the webcam on my laptop...so I had to write all the lettering backwards. The 'bumpersticker' on the cupcake says "I Love Hostess", and his thoughts say "Shh...I'm hunting Duck".

Toon Platoon Mascot Thingy

This is my first picture for Toon Platoon and I thought it came out just fine. I just wish that the scan came out a little better. Sorry.

Cerealholics Anonymous

It isn't that surprising. They should've known how addictive their cereals are, especially with all the sugar that's in them. They could've just looked on the side of the box, but instead they're here drinking stale coffee & feeling sorry for themselves. Shame, shame.

Deadline Delay

Hi folks.

Due to some holdups here, the deadline of this week will be pushed until Tuesday at midnight.

Sorry for the delay!

Halo Results & Week 2 Topic

OK, the votes are in, & the winner of this week is... ME! Conceited...yes. Sad... somewhat. Modest... very.

Since I won this first week, I get to choose the next topic. & after much careful deliberation, I've decided that the topic for Week #2 will be... PRODUCT MASCOTS! It could be your favorite(s) or one of your own design.

Deadline is next Saturday at 12 Midnight. Have fun drawing this week!

Friday, October 12, 2007

Happy Voting, everyone!

Arbiter

Well, it's the Arbiter and this is my attempt at drawing him. I got to say that it's a lot harder than I thought (and it's not even finished). I have tons of practice sketches I've been doing of him to get it right but I'm limited in time so, as you can see this drawing is not done yet. It's also a quick scan (one arm is missing). A lot of detail is missing and I'll work on it and post the finish product some time in the future, who knows when though. I'm tired so, good night.

HALO - First Impression

First impressions are always the most important, & by the looks of it, Master Chief's isn't working out so well.

Thursday, October 4, 2007

Week 1: HALO

That's right, our first topic here on Toon Platoon will be... the HALO GAMES! Remember, you can draw anything you want, as long as it's on-topic with the game(s).

& another thing, other than posting your artwork, you cannot post 'chit-chat' stuff on the main page. You can do that in the comments section of each post. & speaking of comments, remember to leave comments on everybody's posts. It's great to get feedback from others.

The deadline for this week's topic will be Thursday at midnight. You have a whole week to draw & post your submissions. So have fun & watch out for plasma grenades!

Tuesday, October 2, 2007

Welcome to TOON PLATOON!

I welcome you all to Toon Platoon. No, this is not a blog about that proposed prequel to Roger Rabbit. This is a weekly art contest blog!

Here, artwork by myself & other site members will be pitted against each other for artistic supremacy. There will be no cash prizes or shiny awards given... the only award is FUN! (Corny as hell, I know.)

Since our members are still prepping up at the starting gate, this site will remain dormant until further notice. Until then, enjoy the empty space!
