Vote your Pants Off! (Not Literally, of course)
Will ~Em's tutu'ed two-stepper take 1st place?
or will Cheshire's Tangoing Twosome dance themselves into the lead?
or can my own white boy dance skillz help me reach the top?
"Dance to Funky Music, White Boy"
No other person on this planet dances quite like the white guy. I know, 'cause I've been one all my life, & sadly I have danced at plenty of parties, so many people already are aware of my peculiar movements to music. I'll try to describe it to the best of my ability.
A white guy usually dances off-kilter &/or off-beat. While other people can keep rhythm, beat & time their movements right to the music, the unfortunate white guys dance as if they were either blind, deaf or dumb (the latter one in most cases). Their moves are usually a hodge-podge of out-of-date dances between the years 1954 to around 1987. The most common moves of a white guy are the "sideways peace sign across the eyes" gesture, the "lifting one foot & twisting on the other" shuffle & the most widely recognized gesture: "pointing your finger in the air a la John Travolta in 'Saturday Night Fever'"
Unlike dances of yesteryear, like the Charleston, the Twist & the Macarena, the dance of the white guy never seems to fade away. It's always has been there, & forever it shall remain.
*Since I just got back from a trip today, I roughed this out quickly on the plane ride home & inked it just now. I'll try to get my later entries out of the way before I go away myself. Cheers!

New Topic: Dancing
For this topic, the idea is to draw either one, two or more people dancing a certain way. There are hundreds of different dances from all over the world, from Belly Dancing to the Watusi (whatever that is). To help choose the right dance for you, here's a list of dances courtesy of Wikipedia: CLICK ME!. & remember to write the name of the dance as a caption underneath the dancer(s) in your drawing.
Since I will be away this weekend, the due date for this week's topic will be next Monday, August 25th @ 5 PM.

Time to Vote!
We also have a new member in our ranks, SirPsychoSexy. Welcome to the platoon, soldier!
We'll it's time to vote this week, & I tell ya, it's gonna be a tough week with all the choices we have to choose from.
-Will it be my cartoony Joker?
-Or Cheshire's pair of Jokers (or should I say a Joker & one Harley?)
-How about ~Em's Joker "playing Norman Bates"? (Don't get the reference?.... well too bad!)
-Maybe SirPsychoSexy's first entry will take first place?
-Yet OmegeEye's hodgepodge Joker has a really good chance.
-& last, but not least... GuitarMonster's creepy "staring directly at me no matter where I stand" Joker?
The JOKER
Here he is the one, the only, JOKER!!!!! Well i guess there is a lot more of him then any of us need. Because if I'm not mistaken, everyone drew him, so there is what? 6? Well any way, I tried to make him as creepy as possible. To me, he kind of looks half real and half cartoon. But what ever. I drew him holding an ace card in his hand with the Bat symbol on it cas i think there is a runing thing between him and batman where Joker calls batman ace. But I'm not sure. (Didn't watch to much B-man).

I Believe In The Joker
First, the right eye (from his point of view) is burnt
Second, that same eye has a vertical cut on it
Third, he doesn't have a long pointy nose
fourth, his chin isn't a big
and fifth he has a similar make up on as the Joker from the Dark Knight movie as well as his out fit
Well, that's it (I think)
Later
Jokah
Hey, guys. New guy here... don't have a lot to say except that me and Omega are related (brothers) and that I've been wanting to enter these competitions ever since he mentioned them to me. But me being lazy and all was never really arsed to do so.
So, why did I decide to partake in this one? Well, because the Joker is awesome. Simple as that. =p

Im in luuuuuv with the jokah
I did many drawings and none of them were good enough. I couldnt think of any poses out of my imagination that were.. creepy.
So one day.. I was drawing and my mom was standing right in front of me....
so I told her to make a creepy pose with a gun..
She took my brothers toy gun and posed for me...
I think she thought I was drawing her... because when I was done shes like.. "oooh! is that mama rambo?"
Im like.. no mom its the joker DUHH

The Joker, My Way
Although I've not really been a fan of Batman (or most comic books in general), I always admired the Joker from the animated show from the 90's, especially Mark Hamill's voice delivery for the character.
For reference, I watched an animated Joker clip from Youtube, but in the end he looks more like the Joker from the old 60's TV show than the animated one. Looking back, I wish I drew him in a more dynamic pose... he looks so stiff just standing there, like he's a cardboard standee. Oh well, I tried.
Tuesday, August 5, 2008
It's Joker Time!!!
You can draw him any way you wish... like the old TV show, like the animated show from the 90's, like the current Joker from Dark Knight or any way you think is acceptable.
OmegaEye Wins!!!!
OmegaEye, it's time for you to choose next week's topic! I'll be gone for most of the day tomorrow & I won't be back at my studio 'til tomorrow night, so
call or email me by tomorrow night to choose your topic.

Tuesday, July 22, 2008
New Topic is a bit Elfish...
There's all different kinds of elves: warriors, kings, regular folk, Santa's elves... whatever.
OmegaEye does specify that you can only draw original elves. Characters like Link or guys from Lord of the Rings do not count. You can use them as references, but you cannot draw them as your entry. Elves of your own design only!!! Also, do not draw gnomes, trolls, imps or leprechauns, they don't count as elves.
The due date for this topic will be Wednesday (July 30th) at Midnight!

Damn... Another Tie
OK, I shall ask a trivia question & whoever answers it correctly first will choose the next topic. Remember this question is for ~Em & OmegaEye only!
*This'll be an "open-book" question: you are allowed to use the Internet to find the answers. I'm not a teacher, so I don't care where you get the answers from, as long as you answer them correctly. You've got one chance to answer, if you answer incorrectly you lose your turn & the other has their chance to answer.*
Here's the question:
List all 9 planets in our solar system from largest to smallest (Pluto included!)
You two have only 24 hours to answer the question. If neither of you answer correctly or answer at all, then the next topic shall be chosen randomly. & make sure to think of a good topic for next week when you answer so I don't have to wait for you guys to think of one afterwards. Good luck!

Time's Up, so let Nature take it's course...
So now comes the interactive part of the show, the big vote-off. Who will win this week?
My Carlin-esque Faddah Time?
Cheshire's ivy-covered Mother Nature?

GuitarMonster1994's Young Father Time?
or OmegaEye's Mother Nature playin' OmegaMan?

Here's my interpretation of Father Time. Apparently, he's late for the early-bird dinner special at Howard Johnson's.
You know.... when you look at him closely, he looks kinda like a cross between Willie Nelson & George Carlin.

'Time' for our Next Topic!
Cheshire's topic will be a fun one... for this week the topic is to draw your own interpretation of Mother Nature or Father Time. Adding a background is completely up to you, but I'd suggest you guys should just draw the character alone so all attention is drawn to him/her & not what's behind them.

Lord of the Rings: What Really Happened
"Night on Chicken Mountain"
At first I didn't know what scene to do.... the Chinese Mushroom dance from the Nutcracker Suite?.... Mickey conducting the stars in The Sorcerer's Apprentice?..... Ben Ali Gator swooning over Hyacinth Hippo from the Dance of the Hours?..... what could I possibly do?
I finally decided on the one sequence I've never considered drawing from before... probably one of (if not the) most frightening scenes in all Disney film history: the Night on Bald Mountain sequence! I substituted Chernabog with Cannibal Chicken & two spirits with Steve-O & Randy just to make things a bit less scary.

Anyway, it's time to choose the next topic.... uhhhh.....lemme see.....uuuuuuuuhhhhhhhh-OH!.... how 'bout Cereal Mascots!, we haven't done that one ye-... oh wait, we did do that already, didn't we?...... damn it......
OOH! I GOT IT! (This'll be a goodie!) For this week's topic, the assignment is to draw a screengrab from a scene from your favorite (or one of your favorite) movies. For this, you should try to draw it as close to the original image as you can, but don't completely copy the image as if you were tracing it! Add your own style or flair to it, make it as if it were your own! If you have any of your own characters, substitute them with the actual actors if you wish! It's all up to you, as long as you have fun with it!

Glad THAT'S over with....
The idea for out next topic came to be during a conversation I had with Cheshire & GuitarMonster a few weeks ago. I thought "What would happen if you combined two totally different movies into one, for example: if you combined A with B, what would you end up with?...". Well, we ran with the idea for a good 10-15 minutes & decided that it would make a great topic someday. Well, today's the day!
So this week, you have to create a movie poster/screenshot based on a combination of 2 totally different movies of your choice.
No..... NO!....... IT CANNOT BE!!!....
Although it is a three way tie, ~Em is a away on a brief vacation & won't be availiable to participate. So technically, the tie is only against GuitarMonster1994 & myself. Here's what we're gonna do:
Another member shall ask a random trivia question & whomever answers it correctly first wins!Since Cheshire isn't in the tie, I think it would be appropriate that she asks the big question! Cheshire, you may post your question in the comments of this post & we'll answer it there.

THE BEER-BOT!
This robot obviously only makes beer in his little "compartment" which is probably a robots "stomach". So you see... it comes with this little romote you can press (you only click it when you want some beer)! Thats what the attena is for. It only takes about 30 seconds to make a new glass of beer. Then, once hes ready to serve, he uses his roller blades (as you can see have ROCKETS on them to get to you quicker) to serve you your beverage.

Whaddaya know.... another Defaulter!!!
Since I was the only guy who posted, I win this week & get to choose the next topic. Whoop-de-doo... Ok, for this week, we'll do somethin' a bit different from the last few weeks:
Back at SVA, when Patrick McDonnel (creator of the comic-strip Mutts) spoke at the school, he told us that he had to take an "art exam" to get into the college. Unlike a written exam or essay, he had to draw all of his answers. One of the assignments on the test was to design a fish that could survive in the Hudson River. For those of you who don't know, the Hudson River was (& still is) highly contaminated with sewage & harmful chemicals from the G.E. Corporation.
He then drew his answer, which looked somethin' like this:
This answer got him into the school.
So, this week, I'd like to see how imaginative & original you guys really are. So this week's topic is the same as the one given to Patrick McDonnel: DESIGN A FISH THAT COULD SURVIVE IN THE HUDSON RIVER. Be very creative with your answers!
The due date will be Saturday, June 14th @ Midnight.
*By the way, the drawing I did above does not count as my entry, so this drawing does not count in the final vote.*

"Em & Em"
Well, maybe just a bit more sour.... (Just kidding, ~Em old girl)
I would have done it up nice in color with crayons or colored pencils or somethin', but I was afraid I'd ruin it if I did. My color sense is completely off-kilter. Besides, I think it looks fine just the way it is.
Damn! I should've drawn a Dick Dastardly mustache, just to get back at ~Em for drawin' me up like I was a Disney Princess. Oh well, maybe next time!

It's a Defaulter!!!

I ain't offended by the other member's interpretations of me. I think they're swell. In fact, I look better in those illustrations than I do in real life. Children cower & run away in fear at the sight of me. Mirrors break, dogs bark & old people go into cardiac arrest just by taking a quick glance. On several occasions, some poor saps have turned into stone. Still, I'm glad my face is funny enough to be caricatured like this.

Winner + New Topic!!!
As for the new topic, Em already had a topic in mind, which I think is really awesome. This week's topic will be based on the popular Beatles song "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds"!Here's the rules for this particular topic: you have to draw your own interpretation of a portion of the song. Just listen to the song/read the lyrics & draw what comes to your mind.
The due date for this topic is Wednesday, May 7th @ Midnight!
To help you guys out, I've included a video from Youtube as well as the lyrics below to help those who aren't familiar with the awesomeness of this song!
{VERSE 1}
Picture yourself in a boat on a river,
With tangerine trees and marmalade skies
Somebody calls you, you answer quite slowly,
A girl with kaleidoscope eyes.
Cellophane flowers of yellow and green,
Towering over your head.
Look for the girl with the sun in her eyes,
And she's gone.
{REFRAIN}
Lucy in the sky with diamonds
Lucy in the sky with diamonds
Lucy in the sky with diamonds
Ah... Ah...
{VERSE 2}
Follow her down to a bridge by a fountain
Where rocking horse people eat marshmallow pies,
Everyone smiles as you drift past the flowers,
That grow so incredibly high.
Newspaper taxis appear on the shore,
Waiting to take you away.
Climb in the back with your head in the clouds,
And you're gone.
{REFRAIN}
{VERSE 3}
Picture yourself on a train in a station,
With plasticine porters with looking glass ties,
Suddenly someone is there at the turnstile,
The girl with kaleidoscope eyes.
{REFRAIN REPEATED AND FADED}

Disney Pop-Up Toy
As a baby this was my favorite toy: a Disney Pop-Up Button Toy Thingy! Screw your Tickle-Me Elmos & your battery powered baby cars... back in my day, THIS was technologically advanced (actually, Teddy Ruxpin was probably much more technologicallly-advanced, what with the "state-of-the-art" cassette player in his back & all, but that bear gave me the $&%#@! creeps!)
It always kinda bothered me that Dumbo of all characters would be in it. I mean seriously, Mickey, Donald, Goofy, Pluto & Dumbo? How does he fit in? & for some reason, the thing that activates the Pluto pop-up is broken, so I don't remember what the mechanism was to make him appear. I'm surprised I didn't snap off Pluto entirely, with me trying to pry him open for the past 18 years.
I still have this toy in my attic somewhere. If I find it, I'll be playing with it all weekend, or at least until I find something even MORE exciting that that. Now if I only knew where my Sit & Spin was...

Happy New Year!
To start off the new year here at Toon Platoon, it's about time to start a new topic. Since my 12 Days of Christmas post didn't take off, I'll put up another topic.
For our first topic of 2008, I'll put up a much broader subject to tackle. This topic will be about 2007! For this, you can post whatever you want about the past year. It could be your most memorable moment (or your least), important events that took place in the world (news, entertainment, etc.) or personally, or ANYTHING that YOU think was significant in 2007. You also must put your explanation of what your submission is about & why you think it's so memorable.
The due date for this topic will be Saturday night @ Midnight (1/19/07)!
By the way, I'll also try to bring in some new recruits. Our army must grow!
